The standard ISO 14001:1996 is oriented on enterprises regardless of their size and field of activity. It is applicable in different geographical, cultural and social conditions. The main aim of the standard is stimulation of activities in preservation of the environment and prevention of its pollution in accordance with social and economical needs. In October 2001, the decision about "Baltija" Shipbuilding Yard to implement the International Standard ISO 14001:1996 has taken. From March till November 2002 the Yard was preparing for the audit that had to evaluate the results of the work. During the preparation for the external audit two internal ones were conducted in order to reveal the shortcomings of the system implementation work. |

Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance carried out the external audit in two stages: the first stage took place on 22-25 October 2002, the other one - on 4-8 November 2002. On 26 December 2002, the certificate attesting to the compliance of the company's environment implementation system to the requirements of the international standard ISO 14001:1996 was presented to the administration of the Yard.
The implemented system is to help the Yard minimize environment pollution.
At the moment, the work on the elimination of the previous audit remarks and fulfillment of the tasks regulated put by the standard is going on.
